Colleagues, The diagram shows a continuum of events along two axis:
This gives us four quadrants (yes, I love quadrants):
The framework is helpful in getting us to be more proactive.
For routine issues, we should invest time creating standard operating processes (SOPs) and in helping others be able to execute those SOPs. For predictable issues, we should have some sort of minimally viable plan in place. For surprising issues, we first need to pause, and then get help. This is a rough draft of a new framework. Any feedback you can give me would be greatly appreciated. You can email me by clicking here or simply replying to this email. Cheers! Frederick

Colleagues,
Success! Every email this week was under 100 words! Will this continue? No. Why did I do this? To grow. Short emails require different skills to write. I have added a tool to my toolbox. It doesn’t replace the other tools but is now there when I need it. I hope you have also reflected on what is essential and on how to strip away some of the excess when it is appropriate to do so. If you are someone who overexplains, maybe go back and review this week and think. Cheers! Frederick Colleagues,
Note: I’m challenging myself to keep every message under 100 words this week. Just for fun. Why a 100-word challenge? Less is more. It is easier to focus on what is essential when all we have is the essential! Cheers! Frederick Colleagues,
Note: I’m challenging myself to keep every message under 100 words this week. Just for fun. Yesterday I encouraged you to offload something you aren’t that good at. Today, I’m encouraging you to get better at something. Your core job as a leader is to help your people become better. That means you need to become better at helping them. How will you do that? The basics of skill development:
What do you need to learn? Who will you apply it with? When will you reflect on the results? You can share your answers with me if you’d like. Cheers! Frederick Colleagues,
Note: I’m challenging myself to keep every message under 100 words this week. Just for fun. I need some firewood. I could cut it myself, but I won’t. I’m not great at running a chainsaw. I can make a better impact on our budget by helping leaders grow. I’m better at doing that than I am at running a chainsaw. Similarly, Mara is better at social media than I am, so I’ve turned to her for help. What about you? What are you doing that someone else might be able to do better? Is there anything stopping you from asking for help? Cheers! Frederick |
