Colleagues,
It’s the holiday season and many of us are distracted and maybe a bit fatigued. This is not a time to start new things, but we can still grow. This week I will be encouraging you to be fully present with people. Today, focus on asking the second question. The first question is “How are you?” The second question is “No, really, how are you?” If you need a bit of therapy this Monday morning, consider sending me your answer to the second question. I won’t share with anyone or think less of you if things aren’t all rosy. Cheers! Frederick

Colleagues,
If you’ve been following along and reflecting, then today is the payoff! At the bottom of this email is a simple rubric. You can use your reflections to approximate the degree of alignment in your organization. Interpreting Results: Use the scoring guide below to generate a score between 5-15. A score above 12 indicates high alignment. A score of 10-12 suggests average alignment. A score of 7-10 signals that there are significant issues. A score below 6 reveals that something is drastically wrong. While aligning an organization is the core function of leadership, understanding the nature of the misalignment can be complex. Here are some possible next steps:
Any time I do something a bit different, it helps to hear whether it was something that I should repeat again. If this week’s exercise was valuable, or if it was ineffective, please let me know. Cheers! Frederick Colleagues,
Each day this week we are setting aside five minutes for a reflective question. Tomorrow, we’ll look at how to make sense of your reflections and how to move forward. Friday’s question: What is our organization’s core purpose? Monday’s question: What role do I play in fulfilling that purpose? Tuesday’s question: What percentage of my time over the past two weeks was spent working in ways that directly support the purpose? Wednesday’s question: What facilitators (other people, resources, policies, and structures) make it easier for you to work towards the purpose? Today’s question: What barriers make it challenging to work towards the purpose? Cheers! Frederick Colleagues,
