Colleagues,
MVP: External forces may require us to change our plans, which we should do with intention. This week we have been having some trees worked on. Some trimmed, some taken down. It is noisy work and I work from home. I have some priorities that require me to make some videos, which becomes very difficult with the noise. This is a great example of how external forces can impact our work. In considering external forces, the important thing is to react to them with intention. I have laid the groundwork to film on Friday if they are done. If not, I will do Monday’s priorities on Friday and film on Monday. Not what I planned, but at least I am thinking things through instead of reacting to urgency. Today’s intention: What did you have to adjust this week? Were you intentional, or did you get caught up in the urgent? Cheers! Frederick

Colleagues,
Four Five keys to building a great organizational culture:
Today’s intention: Think about your own organization – do my five keys fit? Did I miss something? What are your five keys? Side note from Mara: Today is Frederick's birthday (and of course he didn't mention it in this email)!!! If you have a moment, it would mean so much if you sent Frederick a happy birthday message. He would be pleasantly surprised and delighted! You can send him a message here. Cheers! Frederick Colleagues,
MVP: Organizational culture can be nurtured through intentional actions. I subscribe to The Savvy Principal, a great weekly publication from EdWeek. In this week’s issue there was a link for a tip sheet on building a thriving school culture. The suggestions are applicable to any organization. Summary:
Tomorrow I will share my four suggestions. Cheers! Frederick Colleagues,
MVP: Don’t have enough time? Time is NOT the problem! Today’s episode of The Assistant Principal Podcast is about “time management.” I put it in parenthesis because what I focus on is more important than time management. Time is not the problem! The pod highlights some core concepts from my book, A School Leader’s Guide to Reclaiming Purpose. This episode will be helpful even if you are not an assistant principal, or even in education. Guaranteed! Today’s intention: Monitor your time today. Are you spending it or investing it? Cheers! Frederick Colleagues, MVP: We cannot predict the impact we have on others. I’ve written about my mug before. My college roommate made it for his girlfriend in 1986. How it came to be in my hands is another story 🥺 but I have been drinking from this mug nearly every day since it came into my possession almost four decades ago. Previously I described how aware I am that some day this precious object will break, and that my awareness inspires me to appreciate it all the more – while it is still here. It also keeps me present as I am very intentional when I use, move, or clean it. But here is today’s lesson… When Roger gave that mug to me, he had no idea that he would be improving the quality of life every day for four decades. Leadership is a lot like giving someone a mug. We cannot predict how our actions can have lasting effects on people. Maybe even life-changing.
Today’s intention: Today, give away as many mugs as you can! Cheers! Frederick |
