Colleagues,
MVP: You choose, and your choices reflect your values You probably won’t be able to get everything on your list done today. That means you face two choices:
Just remember… Your choices reflect your values. Today, in each moment, what will you value? Cheers! Frederick

Colleagues,
MVP: Making an effort to be more present makes it more likely you will be present. Last week I was very present. There was a lot going on with travel, a conference, meeting people, etc… I made a real effort to remain focused and fully present at each step. I wasn’t 100% perfect, but making the intentional effort to stay present and keep my attention on the person or task in front of me has increased how connected and calm I feel. When we are fully present, we see things, we hear things, we think about things. Things that are right in front of us, but which we often skip over. Today’s intention: Try to be more present. With each transition, ask yourself, “What do I need from this moment? What can I give in this moment?” Just try for today. And maybe tomorrow. And the day after. And… Cheers! Frederick Colleagues,
MVP: Sometimes we mess up. When you catch yourself, let it go, and move on. A day in my life emojis… 😃 Ready to start the day, having identified my priorities!!! 🤨 Opening email before the scheduled time and seeing things I should attend to 😅 Working like crazy, getting stuff done, bouncing from urgent to urgent 😩 12:45, and realizing I have not invested any time into my priorities 🍦 12:46, taking a deep breath and giving myself some grace 🔬 Refocusing on priorities 🤩 Doing meaningful work that will help others and improve my business 🥳 Celebrating the wins! Today’s intention: We all get caught in the gravitational pull of urgency. Do the best you can and be kind to yourself. And others 😉. If this message hit home, you might be interested in my new 📙, A School Leader’s Guide to Reclaiming Purpose. It helps you work through the six stages from urgent to strategic. MVP: Invest in relationships, especially friendships. On this morning’s episode of The Assistant Principal Podcast, I caught up with my friend Dr. Faiza Jamil. While the episode focuses on creating a more human-centered school, you will hear both Faiza and I lament that we did not invest more time with each other back when we were colleagues at Clemson University. And yet, I am ever-so-slowly growing wiser. Last week I drove three hours to Charlotte for a conference attended by three friends whom I had only ever interacted with digitally. I brought home another similar friend who took time out of his busy schedule to explore the mountains here in Western North Carolina with me. In the process we cemented a deep friendship. Even two years ago, I would have been “too busy” to “blow off” a week of “real work.” Now, I recognize that the truly meaningful work is about relationships, and I am so much richer – and happier. I know you likely can’t take a week off to invest in friendships, but you face choices consistently:
If this message affects you, consider tuning into my discussion with Faiza as we explore multiple facets of being human. Today’s intention: Invest in getting to know someone more deeply today! Cheers! Frederick Colleagues,
Happy birthday! The daily email is four years old today! For the past 1,461 days, Mara and I have been bringing you our best, five days a week. Whether you have been with us for all four of those years, just a few days, or something in between, there is something very simple you could do to celebrate with us. PLEASE, reflect and think about one message that really hit home or impacted you in some way. Then, PLEASE consider hitting this link to reply and share with us what the message was and why it resonated with you. We don’t ask for much, but we would both appreciate you sharing your thoughts as a birthday gift. Cheers! Frederick |
